Cat's journey - today is the 1st day

September 2020

II have been wanting to begin this blog for some time now. I was so busy getting the studio ready for my clients and yoga instructors and the first month of business has been so busy.

I hired an additional personal trainer for the studio and she sparked me to begin blogging. I am taking part in her 21 day challenge. No, it is not beachbody or any other product, it is just about eating whole food and being accountable for what you are putting in your body.

I am a certified personal trainer, certified yoga instructor, certified health coach, an I am in my third month of a 12 month certification for my Functional Medicine Coaching certification through Functional Medicine Coaching Academy which is associated with IFM (International Functional Medicine). This certification will provide me with so many more tools to help my clients. It will also allow me to sit for the National Wellness Boards. This will allow me to accept insurance from my clients.

So, back to why I am beginning this blog. I have always weighed more than your average 5 foot 6 woman because I have been a body builder most of my life. I have a lot of muscle on my frame. In recent years I have had Lyme Disease, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Sub Clinical Hypo-thyroidism, and have developed Metabolic Syndrome from the weight gain that happened from all of the medications that my doctors put me on and plain old inactivity.

One of the reasons that I decided to open my studio now is because I want to show women that they can do whatever they want to do no matter where they are in their life and health journey. Personally, and I know this will get a lot of controversy, and that's ok, I don't believe in diagnosis of conditions that are not backed by scientific evidence, such as chronic fatigue syndrome. This is the reason that I am studying Functional Medicine, because it gets to the root cause of your condition and is then eliminated by lifestyle changes. Even conditions, such as Psoriatic Arthritis, are manageable with lifestyle changes.

Anyway, I could go on forever about Functional Medicine. So, I weighed in today at 275 pounds. I wear a size 22 pants and an XXL top. I am active now. I take two nights of Martial Arts, 3 yoga classes a week at a minimum, and I walk on my treadmill.

Metabolic Syndrome makes it more difficult to lose weight, but certainly not impossible.

So, follow along if you will. Join me if you choose. I will be forming a Facebook group to guide and hold people accountable along with myself. And of course, you can always come in for some awesome yoga classes, private personal training, and health coaching.

See you next time ~ Cat

Curious about where Cat came from? My yoga instructors thought that was a fitting nickname for my new life in the yoga world and I love it.

February 15, 2020

What a picturesque New England Morning.  The sun is shining.  The snow is glittering like a million stars in the night.  When you look out the window you forget that it is 16 degrees.

The studio is growing and evolving day by day.  So many new members lately!  I love welcoming them to our community.  Watching friendships form reminds me of why I opened the studio.

I am meeting my gym partner twice a week to lift weights.  We both are lovers of lifting iron.  She is just what I need.

I am almost HALFWAY through my Functional Medicine Coaching certification.  It is a lot of work, but I will be able to help so many people live healthier lives just by making lifestyle changes.

I'm itching to go to Colorado again to see my daughter even though she is back in Boston monthly for business.  I loved the desert and the mountains.  So beautiful.  And, I haven't seen my son-in-law since they moved in August.  He is so busy at The University of Colorado - Boulder doing space research or whatever a Dr. of Physics does.  I don't think my daughter even knows.

Getting ready for a meeting and kids will be coming in soon for their 12:00 class.  Happy Saturday.

Until next time - Cat

Is there anybody out there?  Sometimes running a new business can feel very isolating.  There is so much to do and a lot of it you end up doing alone.

More later.....I have to take care of something

June 16,2020

I have two months left until graduating from The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy!  I'm currently accepting Health Coaching clients with my certification from The American Council on Exercise.

I am also finishing up my RYT200 teacher training through Yogafit.  I love their mix of science and spirituality.

What's next after these two programs are finished?  I'm not sure yet, but it will be something.  Perhaps furthering my yoga teacher training to RYT300?  Perhaps going from a Reiki Therapist to a Reiki Master?  Learning singing bowls?  There's so much exciting learning out there!

Stay healthy and grounded

August 1 2020

Well, I have finished my Functional Medicine Coaching Certification.  Virtual graduation will be on August 27th.

Friendships are forming and people are offering support to each other.  It is a beautiful thing to see.

Well, hello there!  What an experience it has been since March and the appearance of COVID.  We did our best to keep in touch with our newsletters and social media, but there is nothing like seeing students back in the studio again!

May 13, 2020

Hello!  It is an exciting day.  I am working on the return schedule that will be in place once we get the go ahead from Governor Sununu.  We will be limiting classes and class sizes in the beginning for everyone's safety.  Our classes will be even more special than before.  Our studio is your oasis.

June 16, 2020

It;s happening!  We are fully prepared to return after COVID19.  With more information available to keep our members and instructors safe, we are raring to go.  You will find changes as you return.  For instance, only one person is allowed in the lobby at a time.  You will need to wait outside if someone else is inside.  Please enter with your mask on and we will give you the rest of the instructions once you are in.

Looking forward to the return of our community.

June 23,2020

Last night was so much fun!  It was our first official night open after the COVID shut down.  Although procedures have changed before and after class; our yoga classes are still offering you a way to move your body and make it stronger along with such benefits as a stronger body and a calmer mind and open heart; you also will leave feeling a sense of community.

We hope to see you in soon.  We follow all COVID preventative procedures and have a lot of windows to open in the yoga studio to keep the air flowing.

August 1 2020

We are still in the midst of a Pandemic. COVID19 doesn't seem to be leaving any time soon. The studio is open and has been for about five weeks. We are following all of the state's recommendations of disinfecting and keeping our team and our members safe and healthy.

We have a passionate and diverse team of instructors ready to guide you in your practice. Come home. You belong here.
